I once saw a cane toad, having just been run over by a car, suck its guts back into its mouth and hop away, seemingly unperturbed by the whole thing. In completely unrelated news, Kyle Sandilands is back on television.
Say what you like about Kyle (we once called him a colossal wart on the cock of humanity on live radio!), the dude is a survivor. No matter how many people he offends, or how many pre-teen rape victims he harasses, Kyle keeps coming back, much like that annoying bloke at work who thinks you’re his mate even though you secretly hate him. Or tinea.
Channel Seven have signed Sandilands on as a judge for the new season of Australia’s Got Talent. And yes, the irony is so heavy you could paint it silver and call it a paperweight. For once in his life, however, Sandilands seems not to be in a state of self-delusion, saying, “I want to thank Channel 7 for having the balls to put me on there.” Quite.
So why would Seven run the risk of hiring Media Land’s loosest cannon? Is any publicity really good publicity? And are we the suckers because, despite the fact that Sandilands is universally acknowledged to be the biggest boil on this country’s already speckled media arse, we keep switching on? Let us know…
